Carpet Repair in Hong Kong for Damaged Carpets

Carpet damage isn't one thing, and it isn't fixed one way. Here's a quick look at what we deal with most often.

Damage What we do Worth knowing
Burns and scorch marks Cut out the patch, fit matching carpet Result depends on the carpet's pattern
Holes, tears and cuts Patch, or secure and seam Smaller repairs when caught early
Split or lifted seams Re-join with tape and heat Needs a sound backing underneath
Wrinkles and ripples Re-stretch onto the tack strips Won't hold once the backing separates
Frayed or lifting edges Re-secure and repair Doorways and stairs wear first
Pet damage Patch pulls and chewed areas Odours are a separate cleaning job

Carpet Burn Repair

Can a burnt carpet be repaired? In most cases, yes. The burnt section is cut out and a matching piece fitted in its place.

Cigarettes, dropped irons, hair tools and candles all melt carpet fibre, and once it’s melted, no cleaning brings it back. So the real fix is replacing that section, not treating it. We remove the damaged patch and fit matching carpet, lining the pile up so it runs the same way as the carpet around it, which is what stops a repair from catching the light differently and standing out.

Will the patch be visible? It depends on the match we can find. A spare offcut from the original fitting is ideal. Failing that, we can sometimes take a piece from somewhere that’s never seen, like inside a wardrobe or under heavy furniture. Plain carpet is far easier to match than a bold pattern or loop-pile, where everything has to line up exactly.

Do you need to replace the whole carpet? Not usually, if the damage is limited to one or two spots. Several burns spread through a room might point toward replacement instead. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you’re in before any work goes ahead.

Carpet Hole and Tear Repair

Can a hole or tear be repaired? Usually, yes. Small holes are patched with matching carpet, and longer tears are secured and seamed so they stop spreading.

Dragged furniture, a snagged heel, a dropped tool, even a pet, can leave a hole, tear or cut, and this kind of damage rarely stays the size it started at. Every footstep pulls a little more at the loose edge. A tear you’ve been meaning to deal with for a few weeks is probably bigger now than when you first noticed it.

The repair works much like a burn: cut out the damaged section, fit a matching piece. For a tear, we secure it along the line of damage and re-seam it where needed. How noticeable the result is depends on where it sits and how close a match we find. A patch tucked in a corner is far less obvious than one in a doorway.

Carpet Seam Repair

Can a split seam be fixed? Usually, yes, as long as the backing underneath is sound. We re-join it using seam tape and heat.

Larger rooms and hallways are often carpeted in more than one piece, joined along a seam. When that seam splits or lifts, you get a ridge or gap that catches shoes and vacuum cleaners, and the exposed edges start fraying.

Will it open again? That’s really about the backing. If it’s breaking down, a re-joined seam can open right back up, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than fix the same spot twice. Where a seam has failed along a longer stretch, we can re-seam it or replace that section entirely. Catching it early, while it’s still a short lifted seam, is a much smaller job than waiting until it’s spread across the room.

Carpet Stretching for Wrinkles and Ripples

Can wrinkles and ripples be removed? Yes, if the backing is sound and the carpet is fitted onto tack strips. Stretching pulls the carpet taut and re-secures it.

Why does this happen? Usually because the carpet wasn’t stretched tightly enough when it was first laid, or it’s simply loosened over time. Furniture being shifted around, and Hong Kong’s humidity, can both make it worse. It’s not just cosmetic either, a rippled carpet is a genuine trip hazard, and the raised section wears out faster than the rest of the floor.

Can every carpet be stretched? No. If the backing has separated from the carpet, stretching won’t hold and can even tear it further, so replacement becomes the better option. Carpet glued directly to the floor also can’t be stretched this way. Send us photos and we’ll tell you which situation applies to yours.

Carpet Edge Repair and Frayed Carpet

Can frayed or lifting edges be repaired? Usually, yes. We re-secure lifted edges and mend frayed sections before the damage moves into the main body of the carpet.

Doorways, stairs and corners take more wear than anywhere else in a room. Edges lift, fray or pull away from the tack strip, and once that starts, it rarely stops on its own. It’s usually one of the smaller, more affordable jobs we handle, and one that’s easy to put off until it isn’t so small anymore.

Pet-Damaged Carpet Repair

Can pet-damaged carpet be repaired? Often, yes, when it’s physical damage rather than a stain. Pulled loops, chewed corners and scratched sections can usually be patched or repaired, depending on how far it’s spread.

If the real problem is a smell or stain rather than damage to the fibres, that’s a cleaning matter, not a repair one. Our pet stain and odour removal service covers that side.

Not sure exactly what you’re dealing with? Send two or three photos and we’ll tell you what we see.

Should You Repair or Replace?

This is worth settling before you spend anything. Repair usually makes sense when the damage is limited, the backing is sound, matching material is available, and the rest of the carpet is in decent condition. Replacement tends to make more sense when the damage is widespread, the backing has failed, the carpet is heavily worn overall, or no matching material can be found.

Repair may make sense when… Replacement may make more sense when…
Damage sits in one or two spots Damage or wear is spread across the room
A spare offcut or hidden piece is available No match exists and a patch would stand out
The backing underneath is intact The backing has come apart or is failing
The rest of the carpet is in good shape The carpet is old and worn throughout
It's plain and easy to match It's patterned or loop-pile, making patches obvious

Cost cuts both ways here. For damage in a spot or two, repair usually works out cheaper than new carpet. As the damage spreads, that gap narrows, and at some point new carpet is the more sensible choice. We won't tell you repair is always cheaper, because it isn't, and we won't push repair when replacement is genuinely the better call.

Fitted Carpet, Rugs and Carpet Restoration

Our repair work covers fitted carpet, loose carpets and rugs, and each is handled a little differently.

Fitted carpet Rugs and loose carpets
Typical damage Burns, holes, tears, seams, ripples, edges Frayed fringes, worn edges, holes, faded colour
Repairs Patching, seaming, stretching, edge repair Fringe repair, edge repair, reweaving, colour restoration
Where the work happens Confirmed once we've assessed the job Confirmed once we've assessed the job, with pickup and delivery for applicable services

Rug repair covers fringe repair, edge repair, reweaving and colour restoration. Persian and oriental rugs are assessed piece by piece, along with wool, silk, handmade and antique rugs, because the right approach depends on the material, the weave, and what the rug means to you.

When a carpet has several problems at once, say a patch, worn edges and a tired-looking surface, carpet restoration looks at all of it together rather than treating each issue on its own.

35+ Years of Experience in Hong Kong

Thirty-five years isn't just a number on the page. It's what lets us look at a damaged carpet and know fairly quickly whether it's genuinely repairable, how well a patch is likely to blend in, and whether the backing underneath will actually hold up to a repair. It's why we've seen the same humidity-related wrinkling problem play out in similar Hong Kong buildings more times than we can count.

That kind of hands-on experience matters more than it might seem. Knowing how a particular fibre behaves, how a certain backing responds to being re-stretched, or how much a colour has genuinely faded after years by a window, comes from doing the work itself. It's also why we're comfortable telling someone a repair isn't worth it in their case, because after this long, we know when that's actually true.

Carpet Repair Cost in Hong Kong

There's no honest way to quote one flat price for carpet repair. A small burn in a plain carpet and a rippled hallway with two failed seams simply aren't the same job, and we'd rather give you a number we can stand behind than a generic one that turns out wrong once we're on site.

What affects the price Why
Damage type A burn, a tear and a seam each need different work
Damage size A small patch and a large one take different time and material
Number of damaged areas More spots naturally take more time
Carpet material Patterned and loop-pile carpets are harder to match
Backing condition Weak backing can limit what a repair achieves
Matching material available A spare offcut makes the job much easier
Access Your building, floor and property type
Seam or stretching work required Takes longer than a simple patch
On-site or workshop repair Some jobs are done where the carpet is fitted, others need our workshop

If you're ready to get a price, sending photos first is the quickest way to an accurate quote.

Homes, Offices and Hotels

Homes, Offices and Hotels

Homeowners usually want to keep a carpet that's otherwise fine, minus one bad patch. Tenants often want damage sorted before a handover inspection, so check your tenancy agreement, and if you're unsure what your landlord will accept, just ask them. Landlords and property managers tend to book repairs between tenants.

We also repair carpet for offices, hotels, retail and hospitality businesses, schools and clinics. In busy commercial spaces, damage shows up first at doorways, seams and edges, and it's a safety issue as much as an appearance one. Let us know about building access, lift booking or working-hour restrictions when you contact us, so we can plan the visit properly.

Carpet Repair FAQ

FAQs About Carpet Repair in Hong Kong

Find answers to common questions about carpet repairs, costs, matching, restoration and the repair process.

Can a burnt carpet be repaired?
In most cases, yes. The burnt section is cut out and replaced with matching carpet, and how well it blends in depends on the carpet type and whether we find a good match.
Can a hole in carpet be repaired?
Usually, yes. We cut out the damaged area and fit a matching piece, with the result depending on the size of the hole and how close a match we can get.
Can a torn carpet be repaired?
Usually. Longer tears are secured and seamed to stop them spreading, and catching it early keeps the job smaller.
Can rippled carpet be stretched?
Yes, if the backing is sound and the carpet sits on tack strips. If the backing has separated, or the carpet is glued down, stretching works differently, and we'll tell you which applies.
How much does carpet repair cost in Hong Kong?
It depends on the damage, the carpet itself, and access to the property. We quote each job individually, the inspection is free, and you'll know the price before anything starts.
Is carpet repair cheaper than replacement?
Often, for damage in one or two spots, but not always. As damage spreads or the carpet is worn throughout, replacement can make more sense. We'll give you our honest recommendation rather than push one option.
Can you match existing carpet?
Often quite closely, depending what's available. A spare offcut or hidden piece gives the best result. Plain carpet is easier to match than patterned or loop-pile.
Can carpet seams be repaired?
Usually, if the backing is sound. We re-join the seam with tape and heat, or re-seam and replace a section that's failed.
Can carpet edges be repaired?
Usually, yes. We re-secure lifted edges and mend frayed sections and corners before the damage spreads further.
Can Persian or oriental rugs be repaired?
Yes, each assessed individually. Rug repair covers fringe repair, edge repair, reweaving and colour restoration, including Persian, oriental, wool, silk, handmade and antique rugs.
Can pet-damaged carpet be repaired?
Often, yes, for physical damage like pulled loops or chewed edges. Stains and smells are handled separately, through cleaning.
Can I send photos for an assessment?
Yes, that's the best place to start. Send photos to +852 9018 0897 with your district and roughly how big the damage is. We'll give you a first opinion, and if we need to see it in person for a final quote, that inspection is free.
